This article is related to the MOTAG and Google's Find My Device app.
The MOTAG can be disabled to prevent it from sharing its location. Once disabled, it will stop reporting to Google's Find My Device network, and the owner will no longer receive location updates. If you receive a notification on your Android device that an unfamiliar MOTAG has been detected nearby, you can make it ring by tapping the system notification. After you've located the device, follow the steps provided below to disable it. This will stop the owner from receiving location updates and prevent the MOTAG from triggering unknown tracker alerts.
By pressing and holding the button:
1. Press and hold the button for 20 seconds. You will start hearing beep (one beep per second).
2. Release the button after hearing two beeps.
3. You will then hear a confirmation sound (two short beeps), indicating that the mode has been activated.
By removing the battery:
1. Use your fingernail or insert a small tool in the gap on the side of the MOTAG.
2. Carefully pry open the device.
3. Remove the battery.
4. Close the MOTAG by aligning the top holes on both lids.
How to re-enable a MOTAG:
Press the button:
1. Short click and long press the button on your MOTAG to re-enable it.
2. When the MOTAG is re-enabled, you will hear a confirmation sound.
Put back the battery:
1. Use your fingernail or insert a small tool in the gap on the side of the MOTAG.
2. Carefully pry open the device.
3. Place a CR2032 coin battery inside with the positive side up.
